We are upgrading from AX 2012 R2 CU6 to AX 2012 R3 CU12. The majority of the users will (and already do) operate in virtual desktops though VMware. Dynamics AX has been functioning in this environment for over 2 years without problems. As part of the upgrade we are moving from Microsoft Office 2010 to Office 2013. Our Program Management group would like to take advantage of the client integration of Microsoft Project 2013 with AX.
Project 2013 and AX seem to be set up correctly to allow for this integration. However, I'm running into an issue where the Project files do not want to sync with AX. The error comes back as:
"Sorry, we weren't able to publish project data back to Microsoft Dynamics AX. Please confirm with your system administrator that a location for storing Microsoft Project files has been specified in Microsoft Dynamics AX and that you have access to it. Also make sure that you have network connectivity, then try again."
The file will try to sync 3-4 times, giving the same error each time. It happens when I try to open an existing project from AX in Project using the "Open in Project" button on the ribbon in All Projects or WBS. (In that case it will create the Project file in the location specified in parameters, but then can't sync to fill in any data.) It will also happen when I try to publish a new project from Project 2013 to AX. In that case it doesn't create a new Project record in AX, it just fails to publish.
I have tried multiple file locations, thinking that maybe there were network permissions around the shared drives that could be causing the sync issue. I changed the parameter path to my user folder on the C:\ drive. I then tried the public user folder on the D:\ drive. In all cases it ended up with the same result: the error above about location and network connectivity.
The question: has anyone else been successful in using the client integration of AX 2012 and Project 2013 in a virtual environment?
Or, any suggestions on what else to check as far as setup is concerned?
